Dream can be defined as the prime motivation in life of a human being. This is the same dream that can take one from rages to riches or from failure to super success. But this time we find that dream has inspired someone to stand on her own feet and leave the wheelchair for ever. Lets share her story.
Sonya Watson was a teenager when she suffered a injury while driving her car, the Ford Explorer. She fall prey to the defective speed-control system. Watson sued Ford Motor Co. and two years ago won a $15 million judgment.
Now at 25, she is ready to go to China for stem cell treatment.
“I am doing this because the doctors told me I would never walk again and I don’t believe that’s true. I can’t get stem cell injections here at all,”
says she.Her family, relatives, friends and some religious groups have collected money for her treatment. She hopes spinal cord surgery with transplants of umbilical cord blood stem cells will enable her to walk again. Watson came across Qingdao Hospital while doing research about possible treatments on the Internet.
Qingdao is associated with Beike Biotechnology, a Chinese company which advertises on its Web site that it has used stem cell therapy since 2001 on more than 3,000 patients with conditions ranging from autism to Alzheimer’s. It claims that 70 percent to 80 percent of patients are satisfied with their outcomes, with the best results for five physical condition, including spinal cord injury.
Watson, optimistic of her success in the treatment, has talked to several patients who had undergone the treatment in China. Hopefully, the treatment will enable her to fulfill the dream of playing with her 3 year old son.
