Human embryonic stem cells ( HESC ) are the cells which can transform itself into any other type of cells. This transforming ability has offered hope of producing human organs needed to replace when damaged due to injury or chronic disease. The researchers at Johns Hopkins have uncovered the molecular underpinnings of one of the earliest steps in human development using human embryonic stem cells. UTX-JMJD3, a new gene family which controls the expression of genes crucial for stem cell maintenance and differentiation has been identified by the researchers at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. UTX-JMJD3, um novo gene família que controla a expressão de genes cruciais para a manutenção e diferenciação de células estaminais foi identificado pelos investigadores em BRIC, Universidade de Copenhaga. These results have been obtained by using both human and mouse stem cells, as well as by studying the devel-opment of the round worm, C. elegans.
