ImmunoCellular Therapeutics,(ICT) Ltd has announced that the company acquired the exclusive license from the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for their novel peptides which the Company believes can stimulate the immune system to target cancer stem cells. Thus it can be used for gliomas, a cancer originating in the brain or spine. These peptides were specifically designed to elicit a T cell response targeting CD133 positive cancer stem cells that have been identified in a number of cancer types, including gliomas, colon cancer and pancreatic cancer.

Kansas State University researchers are studying on the use of Umbilical Cord Stem Cells to deliver more effective and useful cancer drug. So far, chemotherapy has been the only treatment for cancer. But it brings some serious complications with it. Researchers are now focusing to cure breast cancer through the nanoparticles.They are fabricating the nanoparticles and some of the small-molecule drugs for the research. The researchers have studied the method in vitro but soon hope to study the method in preclinical models.

In a major breakthrough in the cancer treatment, Spanish baby’s cord blood stem cell saved the Scot boy, Jordan suffering from leukaemia. Stem cell was his only ray of hope as all other measures failed in him. Jordan’s doctors at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow searched the world for a suitable donor and found a match 1000 miles away in Barcelona. They transplanted the stem cells, taken from a new baby’s umbilical cord, into three-year-old Jordan’s body. And little Jordan was ready to go home within a month of successful treatment.

A 27 year old British woman is conceiving the country’s first designer baby. The baby will be guaranteed to be free from hereditary breast cancer. Doctors have used the controversial screening techniques. They have rejected six embryos which tested positive for the cancer gene in favor of healthy ones to ensure the child would not contract the disease. It can be added that the woman’s husband had the family history of breast cancer as his grandmother, mother, sister and cousin had all battled breast cancer. The researchers have used the technology called the pre-implantation diagnosis (PGD) to create the designer child.

Suzanne Penney was diagnosed with leukemia after aggressive chemotherapy she received for her breast cancer. She decided to undergo an injection of umbilical stem cells – and the procedure saved her life. Doctors tell she can go to run her store, A Pink Ribbon, which is also located in Carlsbad. Penney recovers in the hospital, doctors tell her that her leukemia is in remission.
