Human testicle stem cell

U.S. researchers led by Shahin Rafii of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute said that testicle stem celsl of human can be used to form new tissues as in the disputed embryonic stem cells.

They have already picked up testicle stem cells in mice, and successfully made them grow into cardiac cells, brain cells and working blood vessel tissue.

If the same technique can be extended to men, it would be safer than the present treatment of using embryonic stem cells because the testicle stem cells require no addition or tweaking of genes to get them to form multi-potent cells, which may carry an enhanced risk of malignancy.

Researchers said the testicle stem cells should be robust in most men. And in general, the more primitive the stem cell, the more flexible it is and the more various tissues it can be used to make.
