Stem Cell Research in Heart Disease and Other Ailments at All India Institute of Medical Sciences
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, INDIA, have been actively involved in stem cell research in various degenerative disorders.
The Stem Cell Facility was established in 2005 to explore the safety, feasibility and the efficacy of autologous hematopoietic and cord blood stem cell transplantation in degenerative diseases. As of now, 360 patients have undergone this therapy,says, the Director of AIIMS, Dr Venugopal.
Some of the diseases covered are myocardial infarction, dilated cardiomyopathy, cerebral palsy, motor neuron disease, biliary atrisis, spina bifida, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, fracture non-union, peripheral vascular disease and acute ischaemic stroke.
A PhD programme has been introduced. AIIMS have also imparted short-term training in stem cell techniques to under-graduate and postgraduate students. At the moment, 10 departments are involved in both clinical and basic research in stem cells.

Sir, has the therapy been used on cerebral palsy- hemiparesis type. I want to know the procedure that will be adopted on 14 years old child with Hemiparesis right with normal mental level,speech and is a regular school student. disability is in right upper and lower limbs only which is mobile flexion contracture formation at elbow,pronation, wrist and fingers flexion.In LL mild hip flexion deformity leading to limp,triceps contracture and inability to move the toes. Sir,is stem cell transplant a positive choice in the case. Please reply

My father is suffering from Anterior horn cell disease since the past 3 years….i would likle to know if the Stem Cell therapy can be used to cure him at AIIMS New Delhi and what will the cost of the treatment be. We live in Gwalior .
