The future of stem cell research in Australia looks almost certain to be decided by a conscience vote in Federal Parliament.

Former Health minister and Liberal Backbencher Senator Kay Patterson says she will introduce a private members bill seeking to reverse a ban on therapeutic cloning.

Prime Minister Howard yesterday announced he would allow a vote on the issue if a bill was put forward.
