World Stem Cell Center in Seoul, run by famous stem-cell scientist Hwang Woo-suk, is seeking test subjects suffering from Parkinson’s disease and spinal cord paralysis.

Sufferers who want to take part in research can apply from 9 a.m. on Nov. 1.

Applicants can download forms at the center’s homepage (www.worldstemcellhub.org) or from the hospital (www.snuh.org) and submit them via e-mail or by post.

The hub will pre-select candidates for closer examination based on the applications. The chosen test subjects will undergo simple surgery to extract skin tissue for somatic cell donations.

“The registration of patients is only the initial stage of the research to select optimal test subjects,” said Prof. Ahn Cu-rie, who is in charge of clinical tests at the center. “Clinical tests or treatment can’t begin with patient registration and somatic cell donations.

Subjects are not chosen on a first-come-first-serve basis.”
