Medical research through stem cell therapy is under threat of Catholic MPs
Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill which contain measures to expand medical research (through stem cell therapy) in the search for a cure to dozens of serious conditions, is under the threat of Catholic Labour MPs. They claims to scupper Gordon Brown’s flagship legislation if the medical research plans to liberalise abortion laws are passed.
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill which contains the abortion law is the main point of disagreement of the MPs. They say that if the legislation is passed then it will allow the women to gain access to abortion services.
The House of Commons decided to give the final assent on Wednesday to HFE, but now it is assumed that the decision could be derailed due to the controversies over an attempt by pro-choice MPs.
Catholic Labour MPs plans to tell the Whips Office that if any of the amendments prove successful, they will rebel on the final “third reading,” of the Bill, which will follow the abortion votes, potentially bringing it down altogether.
