Karen Rothenberg has been appointed as the new chairman of the Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission this Thursday. Thus Rothenberg has succeeded Linda Powers, who recently completed her two-year term as chairman of the stem cell commission. Rothenberg has been appointed for the post for a term of one year.

Rothenberg is dean and the Marjorie Cook professor of law at the University of Maryland School of Law.

Brenda Crabbs was also named vice chair of the commission. She is the previous chair of the Maryland chapter of the National Arthritis Foundation.

Both of them have been members of the commission since its inception in 2006.

It can be added that an arm of the Maryland Technology Development Corp. (Tedco), the Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission oversees the $19 million Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund.
