Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich to Pledge $20M for Stem Cell Research
According to The Examiner, Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich will announce plans to include $20 million for stem cell research in the state’s upcoming budget.
The funds will not be at Ehrlich’s immediate discretion but can be applied to embryonic stem cell research. The funds could be available in July if the budget and stem cell package is passed.
“The governor wants to support stem cell research,” said Ehrlich’s communications director, Paul Schurick. “The governor aims to attach a stem cell research institute at the University of Maryland Baltimore College through the Maryland Technology Development Corporation.”
“Embryonic stem cell research is the future for health care,” House Speaker Michael Busch, D-Anne Arundel, said at rally where dozens of supporters and disabled citizens gathered to support the bill in Annapolis. “This is House Bill One.”
