The Apollo Group of Hospitals has signed a memorandum of understanding with the American blood bank Histostem Inc to offer stem cell therapy to patients from South Asia.

Histostem Inc serves as the largest public blood bank in the world and stores 55,000 umbilical cord blood units of stem cells that can be used for therapeutic purposes.

The Apollo Group said here Tuesday that the group will support the setting up of Histotem Cell Treatment Centres throughout India. The group will train doctors and nurses with the help of faculty from Histostem to provide stem cell therapy protocol and help develop new treatments.
