In an attempt to offer first of its kind initiative treatment in their region, Fortis-Escorts Heart and Super Specialty Hospital has proposed to start stem cell therapy in Amritsar, India. This stem cell therapy will be offered to the patients who are suffering from spinal cord injury.

The proposal comes in the wake after seeing the rising number of cases of spinal cord damages that is caused due to increasing instances of road accidents, besides several other reasons.

Experts point out that each month, the district records more than 60 cases of spinal injuries of which at least 10 people require stem cell treatment and are referred to the institutions in Delhi and elsewhere. And to stop this, they have decided to offer a stem cell therapy session of their own.

Doctors as well as the patients are relieved from this news as this will decrease the exertion, mental and physical, that the patients have to suffer to seek stem cell therapy.

Stem cells are the cells who have the ability to renew themselves through mitotic cell division and differentiating into a diverse range of specialized cell types. And because of its diverse nature, stem cell therapy is been used to treat various diseases like cancer, cancerous brain tumors, heart damage, blindness, baldness and missing teeth, by injecting stem cells in damaged parts.
