In what can be called a lesson to the ever going war between the catholic church and stem cell research in the west, an Indian catholic church has supported the Govt attempt to establish stem cell unit in Bangalore. This 203.10 crore project will come up at the Christian Medical College.

The official press release said that the decision to establish the institute will help in developing policies relating to stem cell technologies, identify needs, design new technologies and facilitate conceptualization.

The local church authority in a statement said that it has publicly supported adult and umbilical-cord stem-cell research. They also said that the attempt will facilitate stem cell research in India. The Church leaders were among the first to applaud the discovery of amniotic stem cells.
