Doctors at the Carmel Holistic Veterinary Clinic, claim to have initiated the technique of using stem cell to treat the arthritis and similar problems among pets. The clinic claims to complete at least three such experiments successfully.

The techniques works something like this: Doctors use a syringe to extract fat cells from dogs and cats that are suffering from severe arthritis and similar problems. He sends the fat cells to VetStem, a San Diego-based laboratory where a machine digests the cells, concentrates them, loads them into a syringe and sends them back — all within 48 hours. The vet then injects the animal’s own cells into the ailing joints. Thus they can treat the animals in a way that is both innovative and traditional.

On the other side, the pet owners are also satisfied over the whole technique. Take for example, Jackson, a puppy was born with bad joints in all four limbs — problems that required surgery on his front legs when he was a pup, and on his back legs just three weeks ago. That kind of thing usually leads to arthritis. Thankfully his owner was doctor with the Carmel Holistic Veterinary Clinic itself. So Jackson is one of the few lucky puppies who avail the stem cell treatment and both Jackson and his owner are happy now.
