Breakthrough: Cord Blood Stem Cell Cures Cerebral Palsy Child in Tucson
In a major breakthrough in stem cell research, the doctors from Duke University successfully treated cerebral palsy with the help of cord blood stem cell. And now, after a year of treatment Dallas, the child patient continues to grow in ways doctors never thought possible. Let’s share the story of the child.
Motherhood is the greatest blessing to a woman, and perhaps Cynthia Hextell can realize it very well as she has received a son after three years of attempts. But their joy of having a baby faded up as they noticed something wrong in their child Dallas. Dallas couldn’t make eye contact and never laughed. He wasn’t developing like other kids his age. And it was a nightmare for them when the doctor tell them their child was suffering from Cerebral Palsy. Their only ray of hope was the cord blood stem cell they had stored at the time of their son’s birth. Cynthia and Derak soon learned Dallas’s cord blood might help with his Cerebral Palsy. Thus they became part of a clinical trial at Duke University. Doctors infused the cord blood back into his blood stream. The results were miraculous just a few days after the treatment. After seven months Dallas started to walk.
“The results have been simply outstanding, you take a child who could not walk without a walker, who wasn’t developing, couldn’t speak“, Says Dr. David Harris, CBR scientific director. And for the parents, it was a dream comes true to see their child to walk.”To me, that is a miracle, it’s just amazing. What the future holds for our kids is just amazing,” says Cynthia Hextell, the mother.

My sister’s granddaughter will be two this month and has never walked, crawled or spoken any thing other than syllables. She is a beautiful child and she brings so much joy to our family. What she lacks in physical and mental abilities she makes up in personality and sweetness. I would love to know more about this treatment. Her pediatrician is excited about this information and willing to send her anywhere if it would help. Please keep the information posted so we can seek help for our baby girl.
